Apelin-36, a long peptide fragment of Apelin precursor protein, is widely distributed in the central nervous system and its peripheral tissues, and exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative stress effects. For example, Apelin-36 inhibited the increase of CHOP and GRP78 induced by cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, Apelin-36 could also regulate the ASK1/JNK/Caspase-3 pathway by inhibiting apoptotic signals, and adjust oxidative stress, autophagy and apoptosis to play a neuroprotective role. In addition, Apelin-36 protected lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury by inhibiting the ASK1/MAPK signaling pathway. The latest study has shown that Apelin-36 expression in blood of pregnant eclampsia is decreased.
